Stagnant water condition in the aquarium is another thing that can cause smelly water. You may notice a thin layer at the surface of the water which is bad for fish.
If your aquarium is kept in a confined room then it may not get sufficient air circulation. At that point water may release bad smell
1. Always clean the filter
2. 50% of water change initially then change the water twice weekly
3. Keep the tank decoration simple & add air stones.
4. Check if the water is clogged anywhere or not.
2. Provide such an amount of food that can be eater within 2mins by fish.
